I was sitting at the bar that evening in 1966 with Bro Alhaji Folawiyo taking beer and chatting when Bro. Justice Chief G.S. Sowemimo the then Chairman of the Club came out from the Committee room and said "Eiyeje, take charge of the bar right now." When he said that I did not understand and was confounded. He repeated "I say take over the running of the bar from Columbus as from now." He left immediately to the Committee room where the meeting of the Executive Committee was being held.

I came to the Club to enjoy myself; I ended up selling drinks till late that night. Columbus, the former barman was sacked that day.
The chairman later informed me that the running of the bar is my responsibility until the problem is resolved. I took up the challenge immediately.
The bar was running at a loss at the time. Within six months of taking all debts owing by the club was paid but a lot of hard work, late nights, self sacrifice and assistance from other brothers
